Oxford United fans can expect the goals to flow after striker Jack Midson joined the club from Histon.

The 25-year-old scored 23 times last season and found the net in both games against United.

With James Constable committing his future to the club, U’s boss Chris Wilder has two prolific forwards at his disposal – but says that he is not finished in that department yet.

Midson put pen-to-paper on Saturday, agreeing a two-year deal.

He will now quit his part-time job at Histon’s Glass World Stadium to take up a full-time career in football.

“I have been watching Jack over the last couple of years, even before he signed for Histon, and I know that he is an excellent player with a great work ethic,” Wilder told United’s website.

“He scored over twenty goals last season and scored a great goal against us here which just confirmed what I felt.

“He will be great competition for James Constable and it gives us two 20-goal strikers.

“It is an important area to get right and we are not finished in that area yet.”

Midson added: “I have been weighing up going full-time and Oxford was the club I always wanted to join.

“I'm looking forward to joining such a big club with great fans and can't wait to get started.”

United Chairman Kelvin Thomas is delighted with the signing: “The signing of Jack is great news for the club,” he said.

“We have two strikers who scored over 20 goals last season and that is very encouraging.

“Chris has done a wonderful job in identifying Jack and bringing him to the club as a free agent, and this signing should be another tremendous boost for the fans.”
