A great strike from Adam Cowling clinched a 2-1 victory for Benson in the John Fathers Oxfordshire Junior Shield final against Spartan Rangers, writes Andy Wells.

In front of a large crowd at Witney United, Cowling fired home the winner in the 66th minute to secure glory against their opponents from the Witney & District FA.

Jim Oliver had given Benson a second-minute lead from the penalty spot, but Spartan equalised through Ben Border five minutes into the second half, only for Benson to get the winner through Cowling.

Stanford in the Vale were edged out 4-3 by Botley United in a thrilling North Berks War Memorial Cup final at Wantage Town.

Mike Van De Mortel put Stanford ahead with a volley after eight minutes from Jason Evans’s left-wing cross.

Botley stormed back with two goals in as many minutes from Chris Potter and Andy Potter.

An end-to end-game looked to be slipping away from Stanford, when Mark Nicholl made it 3-1.

On the hour, Stanford pulled a goal back when Evans finished from close range, and within minutes, Van De Mortel hit a wonder shot to level it.

Evans missed a chance to put Stanford ahead, and from the clearance, Andy Potter bru-shed off a tackle and rifled a shot into the far corner for Botley's winner.

Marcham Res lost 3-1 to Coleshill United A in the North Berks League Cup final at AFC Wallingford.

After a goalless first half, Coleshill took the lead through Dean O’Hagan.

Wes Costar hit a post and missed a good chance for Marcham, who equalised five minutes from time through David Tunnah.

With three minutes remaining, O’Hagan scored at the near post for his second.

In stoppage time, Marcham gained a corner and threw everyone, including keeper Peter Fox, forward.

When Coleshill cleared the ball, sub James Bye carried it 50 yards before slotting into an empty net for 3-1.
