Alex Kill was the star of the show as Shrivenham were crowned county under 17 champions after a five-wicket victory over holders Great & Little Tew in a twice-postponed final at Horspath.

Kill finished with fine figures of 3-15, before almost carrying his bat to steer Shrivenham to an eventually comfortable victory.

Shrivenham skipper Rhys Mills won the toss, and put Tew in to bat, and his team got off to an excellent start.

In the third over, Kill removed county under 17 captain Jack Taylor for 11, and after eight overs, Tew were struggling at 41-3.

However, opener Josh Smith remained at the crease, and batted well, working the ball around the field for singles, while despatching loose balls to the boundary.

Mills bowled Smith for a fine 34 with three overs remaining, and when Conor Taylor took two wickets in two balls at the end, it left Tew on an under-par 104-7 from their 20 overs.

Shrivenham got their reply off to a solid start with Kill and Taylor leading the charge.

Taylor fell to a caught and bowled chance, then Alex Bowles played on off his pads.

With Mills being smartly stumped by Smith, Shriven- ham were wobbling at 34-8 after eight overs.

But Chris Walker joined Kill at the crease, and slowly the pair took the game away from Tew.

Walker was dropped off a skyer, and this proved the turning point as the pair hit some beligerent strokes, including a huge six from Walker.

Kill looked supremely confident on his way to 40 – which earned him the man-of-the-match award.

By the time Walker fell for 23, Shrivenham were close, and although Kill was bowled with his team just one run short, it was left to Rory Slater to seal victory at the start of the 19th over.
