Oxford University beat James Bay Athletic Association 20-10 in a physical first match of their Canada tour.

The forwards exchanged blows at the very first scrum, but Oxford were not distracted and were soon rewarded with a penalty from fly half Stuart O'Flanagan.

On 20 minutes, a scrum in the James Bay 22, led to a try for Dark Blues wing Will Browne in the corner.

Their other wing, Sean Morris, touched down Toby Henry's kick ahead and O'Flanagan converted.

Tom Gregory set up fellow replacement Alex Cheeseman for a second half try.

James Bay showed why they have been Canadian champions for the last three seasons with two tries from Jeff Williams.

Banbury roared back from their 55-0 defeat against Old Northamptonians to thrash Aylestone St James 48-3 in Midlands 3 East South.

Oxford also shipped 50 points in their BB&O Premier opener, but this time pipped Phoenix 22-17 with two late tries.

Gosford All Blacks had to forfeit their match at Stow-on-the-Wold due to a lack of front-row forwards.

Players willing to play in these or any other positions, at both first and second-team level, are invited to attend Gosford's training sessions.

These take place between 7 and 9pm at Stratfield Brake.
