OXFORD Spires continued their winning start to the season with a 48-42 away victory at Birmingham Brummies.

Peter Schroeck’s side became the first Premiership club to win away from home this season within 15 heats, while making it three wins from their first three meetings of the campaign, and securing an aggregate bonus point.

Rohan Tungate led the way with 15 points from six rides, while Charles Wright (10+3) and Chris Harris (9+2) also weighed in with double figure points hauls.

Schroeck said: “We knew the team was more than capable of winning this meeting, and we couldn’t be happier with the result.

“It was going to be tough without Maciej [Janowski] but the boys pulled together and were professional from the start of the meeting.

“Our maximums were really crucial. To post four 5-1s away from home is good going, and we needed them as Birmingham had strengths in their side too.

“From the day Oxford returned to track, we’ve always said avoid last places, and we did that well, and I’m proud of Ashton [Boughen] too for showing real resilience in his final ride for winning back what turned out to be a crucial point.”

Tungate added: “It was another good meeting for us. We’re all getting on well and doing our job. We’ve got a very well-balanced team, while all the boys put in 100 per cent effort.

“Of course, it’s always more enjoyable when the team is winning, but it’s a good bunch of boys and that makes it enjoyable too. When you’ve having fun, you score points and we’d like to keep it that way.”
