OXFORD Cheetahs must end Glasgow Tigers’ unbeaten home record in the Championship tonight if they are to finish the season at the top of table.

Poole Pirates’ win against Edinburgh Monarchs on Wednesday saw the Dorset side climb two points above the Cheetahs.

It means Peter Schroeck’s team must end the Tigers’ 101-day unbeaten run on home shale if they are to leapfrog the Pirates into first place.

Schroeck said: “We’ve overcome some huge challenges this season, but I’d say this is one of our biggest, and the boys are bang up for tackling it head on.

“Glasgow’s home record speaks for itself and they’ve got a strong team from top to bottom. They’ll enter the meeting full of confidence just like ourselves, so the ingredients make for what should be a fantastic meeting.

“Finishing the season top of the league would complete part of this club’s incredible story and its rise from the ashes.

“There is an advantage also as you get to pick your play-off opponents, but we fear no team and believe in our ability to match any opposing one to seven at this level.

“Before we can think about any of that, we have one final job to do and preparation has mirrored every other meeting we’ve started this year.”

Schroeck has announced an unchanged side from Tuesday’s home victory against Scunthorpe Scorpions, but there will be one alteration to the riding order.

Jordan Jenkins is set to step up to number two, while Cameron Heeps will partner with Lewis Kerr at number three.

  • OXFORD Chargers recorded their biggest win of the season with a huge 64-26 victory over Kent Royals.

The emphatic result was Chargers’ ninth win on the bounce and took them five points clear at the top of the National League, ahead of both Belle Vue Colts and Leicester Lion Cubs.

The victory against Kent saw 16-year-old Jody Scott collect his first ever paid maximum in British Speedway, while Jenkins, Henry Atkins, Jacob Clouting and Luke Killeen all returned with paid double-figure hauls.

Schroeck said: “The boys were outstanding. They did the job required and more, so we’re really happy with the end result.

“Credit to Kent because they travelled to us under difficult circumstances missing three of their riders, which is tough for any team.

“There’s still work to do, and we can’t take our eyes off the ball. But the signs are positive and I have every faith in this squad to beat any team in this division when we’re firing on all cylinders.”

The Chargers, who have two meetings remaining, are just one more victory from claiming their place in the grand final, which will feature the top two teams in the table.
