OXFORD Chargers jumped to second in the National League after beating Workington Comets 59-31 on home shale.

The Chargers hadn’t completed a fixture in 53 days due to weather postponements, but returned in style with an all-round team performance.

Every rider in Peter Schroeck’s side registered at least paid five points, while top pair Jordan Jenkins and Henry Atkins returned with a full maximum and a paid maximum respectively.

There was also a successful debut for Jason Garrard, who won his opening ride and ended the meeting with 7+1 from four solid rides.

Schroeck said: “It’s really satisfying when everyone chips in and contributes to a solid score.

“Jordan and Henry’s performances speak for themselves, but Jacob [Clouting], Ryan [Kinsley] and Jason all picked up heat wins, while Jody [Scott] was a consistent performer in the middle order.

“We must thank Kai Ward for stepping in at late notice too after Luke [Killeen] was left stranded on the continent with a broken down vehicle which was completely out of his control.

“We’re back in the play-off frame now and spirits in the camp are high. We’ll refocus ahead of Kent on Sunday and hope to further solidify our position in the play-off frame.

“I know we have the firepower to finish in the top two, and the boys believe in their ability too.

“We have some big fixtures coming up and hopefully the continued support of the fans can keep the team pointing in the right direction.”
