OXFORD Cheetahs’ home meeting with Scunthorpe Scorpions was postponed following heavy rainfall.

The Cheetahs were looking to return to winning ways after a 48-42 loss away to Redcar Bears last time out – their first Championship defeat of the season.

However, the weather ensured the clash with Scorpions was called off.

Oxford Speedway said in a statement: “Despite persistent efforts by our track team across the entire day, the racing surface did not recover to its original state after it was prepared to handle heavy rainfall through the day.

“A track inspection attended by the meeting referee and representatives from both teams prompted the difficult decision to be made.

“Oxford Speedway places on record its apologies to supporters for the inconvenience caused.

“Everyone will receive a full refund and a date confirming the rearranged fixture will be announced soon.”

Lewis Kerr and Luke Killeen were due to return following injuries, while Scott Nicholls was set to come back from a period of compassionate leave.

Cheetahs are seven points clear of Glasgow Tigers at the top of the Championship. The Scorpions are two points further back in third.
