AT the halfway stage of the season, Mark Poulter from the Red Lion B Cassington was in sensational form as he clanged off 16 dolls (6-5-5) in a 2-1 win over The Swan A.

In the opening leg, Swan set 23 and it seemed that would be enough when the Lion left anchor man Poulter needing five to win. However, he was up to the task and whipped off all six to snatch the leg with 25. Lion set the second leg with 22 and this time it was the Swan’s anchor man Lee Thompson to come to the rescue, hitting the four dolls needed to nick the leg by the odd doll. Lion took the final leg 24-20.

Gladiators A hit a massive 35 in their opening leg at home to Garsington Sports Club, who replied with 23. The Glad’s went two up in the next leg 23-17. The final leg was tied 19-19 and in the three-sticks shootout, Glad’s set another massive score as they 18 – one less than they hit with six sticks – to complete the whitewash.

Donnington Club A had to come from behind to beat The Queens Head 2-1. Only one doll separated the teams overall with Queens winning the opening leg 16-12. They then set 14 in the second leg and in reply, Donnington left anchor man Steve Walton needing four to win and he did not disappoint, whipping off the winning doll with his final stick. Donnington then completed the turnaround in the final leg, winning 22-18.

Donnington Club D lead Section Three by two points after a close fought 3-0 win over Viking Sports. The Tandem scored more dolls than their hosts Yarnton British Legion but lost out 2-1.
