Seamer Jack Brooks starred with 5-46 as Oxford bounced back to winning ways with an emphatic six-wicket win over lowly Falkland at Roman Way.

oOxford won the toss and elected to bowl first in a game reduced to 86 overs after overnight rain with the start delayed until 1.30pm.

But the home side, who were without veteran off-spinner Rupert Evans due to a family bereavement, quickly made up for lost time by reducing Falkland to 12-4 off nine overs.

Brooks was first to strike, bowling Luke Day in the third over.

Philip Evans then had Ronnie Dey caught by Francois Vainker, and Brooks picked up Rouf Akbar, with Adam Cook taking the catch, to leave Falkland 4-3.

James Morris became Brooks's third victim to leave Falkland in further disarray.

Khalid Zafar and Ross Gowland staged a minor recovery, before Brooks trapped the former lbw with the score on 48.

Brooks completed his five-wicket haul by removing Chris Chandler to leave Falkland 68-6.

Ross Gowland (36) and Asif Usman, with two sixes and five fours in his 41, provided some resistance.

But left-arm spinner Joe Porter mopped up the tail with 3-7 as Falkland caved in to 121 all out.

In reply, Oxford lost Cook for two to the bowling of Akbar.

But skipper Jason Harrison and Porter then put on a partnership of 50, before Porter was bowled by Akbar for 15.

Harrison was trapped lbw by George Trewby for 32 with the score on 63.

Raj Sharma and Stuart Laudat then added 38 for the fourth wicket before the former was bowled by Nigel Trumper for 24.

And it was left to Laudat (36no) and Ian Crosby to see Oxford home with eight overs to spare.

It leaves Oxford a point behind leaders High Wycombe, with the two pacesetters due to meet at Roman Way next Saturday.
