On-holiday Oxford United boss Darren Patterson has confirmed his interest in ex-Blackpool, Plymouth and MK Dons striker Scott Taylor.

But he said the 32-year-old is just one of a number of players the U's are chasing after, and who are expected to give their decisions over the next two weeks.

"I had discussions with Scott about two weeks ago, but, to be honest, I must have had discussions with in excess of 30 different players," Patterson said.

"He is one of quite of few we are after. He's a good player who has gone for £1m with different moves through his career.

"He played in midfield when he was loaned out to Grays last season, but he's got a good goalscoring record and we're looking at him to play as a striker."

Patterson's first holiday of the summer is about to end, but he has had his phone constantly by his side.

So it was not surprising that his stress levels were dramatically heightened when he had his mobile phone stolen last weekend.

"It was a nightmare, but I've fortunately got another phone now, and it was a big relief to know that it's working OK because I'm in constant touch with a lot of players. We're ready to move for quite a few very soon.

"But the reason there's no news on any signings yet is that we're holding out for five or six and they're all currently on holiday."
