Oxford United's nightmare goal drought continued as they crashed out of the FA Trophy at little Tonbridge.

The Ryman Premier League side, overjoyed at holding United to a draw in their first-round tie at the Kassam Stadium last Saturday, were ecstatic as they completed the job at their Longmead Stadium.

They won the replay 1-0, despite being reduced to nine men with two of their players sent off for second yellow cards in the last three minutes.

It's now more than seven and a half hours since Oxford last found the net, though they did give a more committed performance in the second half, and did everything but score.

But manager Darren Patterson, now well aware of what a mammoth job he faces, said succinctly: "If you don't score goals, you don't win football matches."

The desperately disappointed U's boss added: "We just need one to bobble in.

"The one that fell to Hutch (Eddie Hutchinson) where it dropped down to him, he just didn't get enough on it, that's just the way the ball's going for us at the minute.

"We went with four, even five up, near the end, but just couldn't manage to break through."

The former Northern Ireland international defender admitted management wasn't a bundle of fun for him at the moment.

"I'm a winner in everything I've done, and I don't like losing games. I don't like losing anything.

"This is a proud football club and it's a bad evening for us.

"I'm disappointed. We had 12 attempts at goal in the second half alone and I can't remember them having a go at our goal.

"But they scored a goal and we didn't.

"Congratulations to Tonbridge, I didn't mention them on Saturday. Good luck to them."

The last time the U's found the net was in the second half when they won 2-0 at Kidderminster last month and loan strikers Matt Green and Ashley Barnes both scored.

But right now, that seems a long time ago.
