Henley Hawks were handed a home tie with National 1 heavyweights Plymouth Albion in the EDF Energy National Trophy after their 16-0 third round win at a waterlogged Macclesfield.

The Devon side should ensure a good payday for Henley when they visit Dry Leas on January 12.

It took a last-minute inspection from the officials to determine the pitch playable.

Henley opted for a direct game in the difficult conditions with assaults from centres Jaymes Chapman and Tom Burns leading to a penalty, which full back Nathan Lambden converted.

It was not long before another draining physical assault, marshalled by young Henley scrum half Callum Grant and experienced No 10 Barry Reeves, allowed Lambden to slot a second penalty.

Burns scored Hawks' only try when he ran onto a chargedown and gave Lambden an easy conversion to make it 13-0 after 25 minutes.

Macclesfield defended well to deny Henley a pushover try just before the break.

A third Lambden penalty was all Hawks manged in the second half as Macclesfield dug in well.
