OXFORD City completed their pre-season programme with a 2-0 defeat away to FA Trophy winners Brackley Town on Saturday.

The hosts, who took non-league football’s top cup competition with a penalty shoot-out victory over Bromley at Wembley in May, went ahead in the first half through Lee Ndlovu.

This goal came against the the run of play, while City were unable to create any clear-cut chances in the first half.

After the break they came more into the game and substitute Eze Ibrahim saw his shot saved by Brackley keeper Dan Lewis.

However, the home side sealed their victory when Shepherd Murombedzi added their second midway through the half.

Mark Jones’s side start their Vanarama National League South campaign at home to Eastbourne Borough this Saturday.

Banbury United recorded a 6-0 win against a youthful Hungerford Town side in their opening match of a four-team tournament at Swindon Supermarine on Saturday.

Former Banbury striker Conor McDonagh scored a cracking goal in Supermarine’s 4-0 victory over Bradford Town in the earlier game in this competition.

With Bradford Town withdrawing from Sunday’s scheduled contest, Banbury took on and drew 0-0 with the hosts to win the inaugural Supermarine Cup.
