CITY of Oxford's Nicole Ryan and David Murphy claimed gold medals in the Glasgow International.

Ryan had a great competition, the last qualifying event for the British Summer Championship at the end of July.

Not only did Ryan win the 800m freestyle final with her first sub-nine minute time of 8mins 58.01secs, but she also finished ahead of 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Hannah Miley when coming fifth in the 200m backstroke final.

She was also sixth in the 400m freestyle.

Murphy, 20, claimed his gold medal in the men’s 100m breaststroke, with clubmate Toby Mackay-Champion, 21, coming fourth.

Then in an exciting 200m breaststroke final, Mackay-Champion and Murphy took silver and bronze respectively, being pipped by another Commonwealth Games champion Ross Murdoch.

Murphy also came fifth in the men’s 50m breaststroke final.

Chris Motha, 18, who thrilled City supporters by finishing ahead of Murdoch in the preliminary round of the 50m butterfly, was also tenth in the 200m final.

Clubmate Dorothy Goodgame (17) came second in the women’s 200m butterfly B final.

City’s juniors also shone.

Delphine Little, 15, took gold in the 50m freestyle junior final before winning the 50m backstroke final with a personal best, while Megan Smit, 15, took the 400m junior freestyle.

Daniel Jenkins, 17, claimed gold in the 100m backstroke men’s B final, and silver in both junior 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle junior finals.

Nick Skelton, 15, took silver in the men’s 100m backstroke final – in his first sub-60secs time – and bronze in the junior 50m backstroke.
