JOSH Ruffels was delighted to cap off a wonderful week for himself and Oxford United by making another telling contribution.

Having scored twice in his first 121 appearances for the club, the in-form midfielder doubled his tally in the space of five days.

Ruffels, who opened the scoring in the 2-0 home win over Port Vale on Easter Monday, set up the first of Conor McAleny’s brace at Millwall and wrapped up a 3-0 win with a far post header.

He said: “I can’t ask for much more.

“To come here, get a clean sheet, score and even get an assist, it’s been a great week.

“It’s crazy really. It was getting a bit tight in the second half and to kill the game off is a great feeling.”

The Den has been a fortress for Millwall this season, but United found themselves 2-0 up after just eight minutes thanks to McAleny’s double.

The visitors had to withstand a spell of pressure after the break before Ruffels’s goal.

After watching his central midfield partner John Lundstram go forward for set pieces earlier in the game, the 23-year-old judged his moment perfectly at Chris Maguire’s corner.

He said: “Lunny was making the runs into the box in the first half and I said to him ‘I’ll have a go this time’.

“Luckily Mags went for the back stick and I was making the run there anyway, so I just put my head on it.

“It just landed on my head. It was a natural instinct really.

“We got two goals quite early and we defended well.

“They were always going to come back at us, but credit to the defenders and the rest of the players for doing their jobs.”
