RYAN Ledson was thrilled he could share the magic moment of his first career goal with his parents, who were among the Oxford United supporters at Rochdale, writes DAVID PRITCHARD.

The 19-year-old capped off a terrific individual and collective display at Spotland by making it 4-0 with 17 minutes remaining.

Quick-thinking saw Ledson intercept Conrad Logan’s free-kick, before expertly finding the net from 35 yards as the Dale goalkeeper scrambled back into position.

It was the midfielder’s first career goal and he celebrated by sprinting over to his parents, who were among the ecstatic 489 travelling supporters.

He said: “The celebration was for them because they come everywhere to watch me, so it was a nice moment.

“Funnily enough a couple of my mates were going to be here but they didn’t end up coming, so they’ve missed out.

“The goalie tried to play out wide and I’ve read him in the middle of the park.

“Luckily I had a good first touch and I’m absolutely made up to lift it over him for my first ever goal.”

While it was a team effort, the damage done in the first half came via a combination of Marvin Johnson and Rob Hall.

Both were used in different roles to previous games, with Johnson pushed further forward on the left and Hall used in a central position up front.

Ledson said: “You see it every day in training and I hate playing against them.

“When those two get going and link up it’s frightening sometimes.

“Without even looking, you can put it in the channel and know you’re going to have willing runners.

“For myself and Lunny (fellow central midfielder John Lundstram) it’s brilliant.”
