CITY of Oxford’s David Murphy won a gold medal when representing Great Britain at the Ontario Junior International in Canada.
The promising 18-year-old won the 100m breaststroke with a personal best time of 58.98secs, which is an Oxfordshire & North Bucks open county record.
Murphy will be travelling to Texas in January with Team GB, as he is on the country’s ‘Target Tokyo Podium Potential’ programme.
l CALLUM Smart starred as three City of Oxford swimmers reached finals at the prestigious Winter Short Course National Championship at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
The 16-year-old made the 200m breaststroke A final in an Oxfordshire and North Bucks junior county record of 2mins 14.15secs.
Smart also reached the B finals in the 100m breaststroke – where he won in another junior county record of 1.02.47 – and the 50m breaststroke.
Toby Mackay-Champion reached the A finals in the 200m and 100m breaststroke races and the B final in the 50m breaststroke.
Emily Wood featured in the 200m breaststroke A final and the 100m breaststroke B final.
Other City members competing were Emily Ford, Tash Fenton, Connor Bryan, Emily Nisbet, Ellie Millington, Kate Mills and Daniel Jenkins.
