City of Oxford's Sam van de Schootbrugge returned from Holland with an astonishing seven gold medals at the Dutch National Junior Long Course Championships in Eindhoven.

Van de Schootbrugge became national champion in the 14-year-old 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 100m fly, 200m fly, 200m IM, 400m IM and 400m freestyle.

He then took silver in 200m freestyle and bronze in the 100m freestyle.

He smashed the 14-year-old Dutch national records in both the 200m IM (2.17.68) and 400m IM (4.50.70), which Olympic medallist Pieter van den Hoogenband set in 1992, the year Van de Schootbrugge was born.

Van de Schootbrugge set championship age group records in four events.

Awarded as top male in his age group in Holland, his performance stands him in good stead for the National Age Group Championships in Sheffield next month.

Meanwhile, City of Oxford teammates Alex Jenkinson struck silver in the boys' 13 to 14-year-old 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke at the Newbury Open meeting.

He also won bronze in the 100m breaststroke and 200m IM.

Leanne Brooks (girls 11-12) took silver in the 100m breaststroke.

Although she won the 100m freestyle, she exceeded the time limit and earned herself a speeding ticket.

OTHER RESULTS Girls 10 & under: 50m freestyle - 4 E Royal. 13-14 years: 100m breaststroke - 5 C Webb; 100m fly: 6 L Sherwood; 200 IM: 5 L Sherwood.

Other personal bests: C Webb, K Tillotson, E Lomas, J Royal, B Royal.
