THE weather was the only winner as high-riding Kidlington were held to a draw at basement boys Aston Rowant in a rain-affected Oxfordshire derby on Saturday.

With 107 minutes' play lost - and all of that in the Kidlington innings - there was little chance of a conclusive result.

Kidlington had made the running throughout, having won the toss and inserted the home side, who all batted in determined style.

A testament to that was their scorecard which had only two single figure scores.

But despite all Aston Rowant's batsmen getting a start, none went on to post a score above 30.

Bimalka Liyanarachchi was Kidlington's most successful, taking 4-35 from 13 well controlled overs of off-spin.

Nonetheless 199-9 from 60 overs was pretty turgid stuff and had it not been for and unbeaten 25 from captain and last man Paul Humphreys, it would have been a good deal less.

Humphreys shared an unbroken last-wicket partnership of 32 with Tom Needham, which came at a run a ball.

Aston Rowant carried this unlikely impetus into the field as Tim Morgan struck twice to dismiss Kidlington openers Nawaz Alia and Jamil Faruq and leave the visitors 17-2 from 14 overs.

But the rain then ended the contest as a spectacle with only a further 11 overs possible.

Shahbaz Ali (51no) and Andy Buckingham (44no) used this to good effect as Kidlington chased a second batting point for passing 100 - the innings closing on 111-2 off 25 overs.
