Oxford speedway is back in action with a bumper programme of at least 27 races for Oxford Cheetahs-starved fans tomorrow night (7.30pm).

It will be the first time the wheels have turned at the stadium since Colin Horton pulled the plug on Oxford four weeks ago.

And three new signings, Lee Smethills, Danny Betson and Dan Blake are included in the line-up for the Oxford Cheetahs New Era Trophy.

The club's new director of speedway Peter Oakes has assembled an exciting 16-rider field, who will contest 20 qualifying heats with the top four scorers progressing to the Grand Final.

In addition, there will be six other races, including three involving riders under 15-years-old.

Oakes announced the new signings to be part of the Oxford Lions squad for the remainder of the season following both Grant McDonald (King's Lynn) and Michael Coles (Glasgow) gaining team places in the Premier League and youngster Ben Hopwood set to join Plymouth.

Oakes said: "They are thrilled to be joining us.

"We believe we have a good squad and we intend to build that still further.

"This is the start of a new exciting era for Oxford Speedway and hopefully a future for the club."

Admission is £9 for adults and £7.50 concessions.
