OXFORDSHIRE produced a superb finish to come from behind to beat London 19-17 in the BDO Inter Counties Championship Division 1 match at Bicester.

With four matches to finish, Oxon were trailing 17-15.

But victories from Men’s A team players Brendan Kearns, Jon Jukes and Michael Kearns put them ahead before Neal Russell kept his nerve to secure the first victory of the campaign for the hosts.

Kearns was man of the match with an average of 27.66 as Oxon men’s A triumphed 7-5 after the other three contests had all been drawn.

Gina Freshwater shone with the best average for Oxon Women’s B as they drew 3-3 with London.

Chris Howse continued his unblemished county career by winning for the men’s B side, whose man of the match was Pete Smith with an average of 26.88 in a 6-6 draw.

Deta Hedman showed her world class to beat former Oxford player Casey Gallagher 3-1 as the women’s A contest also finished 3-3.

The Men’s A clash was also nip and tuck with Oxon’s wins coming from George Grant, Lee Russell and Sean Holly before that amazing climax.

Oxfordshire are away to Hampshire in their next match on October 29 and 30.
