In the latest column written by Oxford United fans, for the fans, OxVox Vice Chairman SIMON BRADBURY discusses how one conversation gave birth to a fantastic idea
NEWPORT away, April 19, 2016.
A conversation with a fellow fan at half-time was the start for the One of Our Own Campaign, an initiative to fund season tickets for children in the Oxfordshire care system.
A social media campaign supported by our amazing and generous supporters saw the fund raise more than £8,000 in only four weeks.
A combination of signed shirts, donated by individuals, plus other wonderful donations, at a time of austerity, saw the fund quickly exceed its initial target.
The result was OxVox were able to purchase over 60 season tickets.
Hundreds of young people will become part of the United family as a result.
Do not underestimate the life-changing difference this can have on the young lives of these vulnerable people, who have had a difficult start to life.
The positive and safe environment will enable them to have a release from the issues they face in their lives.
They might even become supporters of the future!
I was delighted to play my part in this inspiring initiative, but the real thanks goes to the fans who donated their hard-earned cash. Thank you.
