OXFORD United supporters are guaranteed to know the score this season – with the club placing an order for a new scoreboard.

The Kassam Stadium’s original technology broke during last season, much to the frustration of many fans.

But the wait for news is now over.

United have bought a new digital installation, capable of handling videos, images and advertising.

It is the same manufacturer as the scoreboard at Barnet’s Hive ground, which Michael Appleton’s men visited last weekend.

While a production issue means it is unlikely to be in place for Saturday’s Sky Bet League One opener against Chesterfield, the U’s hope to take delivery shortly.

Greig Box Turnbull, the club’s managing director, said: “I was aware when I joined the club (in April) that there had been a lot of calls from the fanbase to replace the scoreboard.

“When I went to Barnet last year it caught my attention.

“We looked at the figures and we are hoping to get a sponsor that will cover the cost.”

Oxford Mail:

United have yet to decide where the scoreboard will be placed, although it will not be in the same location as its predecessor.

Plans for the temporary fourth stand have earmarked the north-west corner of the ground for the additional toilets and catering facilities required.

Box Turnbull said: “We’re just looking at the best place for it right now.

“The two options are between the new stand and the South Stand, or it could go in the middle of the East Stand rear wall.”

Tickets for Saturday’s game against the Spireites are reportedly selling well, with the club estimating an attendance of around 8,500.
