HEAD coach Michael Appleton admits he is pleased to see Danny Hylton rediscover his scoring form for Oxford United.

The striker ended a ten-game drought without finding the net in Tuesday night’s frustrating 2-2 draw at home to Mansfield Town.

Hylton, who revealed earlier this week he turned down a bid from Hartlepool United during the January transfer window, took his tally to eight goals this season with a brace against the Stags.

After finding himself out of the starting XI for six weeks, Hylton is beginning to show the sort of form which saw him finish as United’s top-scorer last season.

And Appleton is hoping the 26-year-old can continue to push on and help end a three-game winless run in all competitions when they visit Morecambe tomorrow.

He said: “I’m delighted for him.

“The last two or three weeks he has looked like his old self.

“He has had plenty of energy and obviously to get the two goals I am very happy for him.”

Before Tuesday, Hylton’s last goal in a United shirt came in the 1-0 win at Hartlepool on November 28.

And despite being pleased about returning to the scoresheet, he insists the only thing that matters is United are scoring goals in general.

“It is always nice to score, but it doesn’t matter at this point in the season,” said Hylton.

“We just need to pick up points, whether it is me or the goalie who scores we don’t really care, we just want the ball to go in the net.”
