OXFORD United are optimistic about extending the loan spell of winger Jordan Graham after holding discussions with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 20-year-old joined the U’s last week on an initial 28-day spell, but has been quick to make an impact.

Graham set up the all-important second goal in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Accrington Stanley and turned provider again on Tuesday with an assist for Kemar Roofe in the 2-0 derby victory against Swindon Town.

It was part of a starring role in midweek, in what was the first senior start of the Coventry-born wide man’s career, and he earned a standing ovation when he was substituted 15 minutes from time.

Representatives from Wolves were watching at the Kassam Stadium and head coach Michael Appleton has not been slow to begin the process of arranging an extension.

He said: “We’ve already had that conversation and they’re quite relaxed with it.

“I think they, just as much as us, would be happy for him to stay longer, but again they are mindful of the fact it’s only been a week and things can change very quickly in football.

“There’s no doubt about it, as long as Jordan and Wolves are happy then I’m sure over the next week or so we’ll look to extend it.”

If United are able to secure an extension, the maximum permitted would be to turn it into a 93-day loan.

It would keep Graham at the club until the end of December, although another deal could be agreed once the transfer window re-opens in January.

Appleton is satisfied the player, whose three appearances for United have now doubled his career total, is keen to stay and believes the four-day training camp in the north last week has helped.

He said: “He’s integrated into the team really well and I think being up north last week helped that, being with them quite a bit off the pitch.

“You can tell in his performances so far he’s really excited to be here and play.”

It would be a move welcomed by U’s skipper Jake Wright, who has been impressed since Graham arrived.

He said: “When he came in I said he looked like a young Kemar Roofe.

“He’s been brilliant. His attitude is first rate and you know the gaffer is only signing players who will fit in with the group.”
