Christopher Perham stormed to victory in the male elite race at the 11th Leukaemia & Lymphona Research Blenheim Triathlon yesterday.

Around 7,000 competitors took part in the season-opener, the second largest triathlon in the country.

Perham, 20, from Dorset, a student at Loughborough University, beat Matthew Wright, from Sussex, into second by just four seconds in one hour 36 seconds.

Welshman Morgan Davies was third in 1.00.44, with Yorkshire’s Mark Buckingham, who was second last year, coming fourth in 1.01.05.

Iestyn Harrett, from Wales, was fifth in 1.01.33.

The women’s elite title went to India Lee, who got home in a time of 1.07.57.

Nottinghamshire’s Sophie Coldwell was second in 1.08.37, with Natalie Milne, from Scotland, third in 1.09.37.

Cirencester’s Jenny Manners (1.09.54) was fourth.

Of the Oxfordshire competitors, Rosie Weston was fifth in the female junior elite race in 1.16.01, which was won by Bronwen Owen (Yorkshire) in 1.09.57.

Daniel Crowe was 31st in the male equivalent in 1.12.42, the race being won by Team Bath’s Miles Burton (1.01.16).
