Oxford City Stars are bringing two massive crowd favourites back to Oxpens Road after completing the re-signing of Alan Green and Andy Cox.

The pair went to Slough Jets in English National League South Division 2 a year ago after Oxford were promoted to the top flight.

However, both returned to play brief cameo roles for Stars at the turn of the year on a two-way deal.

Green has scored 150 goals in 133 games for Oxford, while defenceman Cox has made 243 appearances for Stars since his debut in 2001.

Head coach Simon Anderson knows Green’s presence will unnerve Division 1 defences.

“He not only scores goals, he makes the players on the ice around him better as well,” he said.

“Getting him back was a priority right from the day I started recruiting for the coming season.

“He knows the returning local guys and so will fit into what myself and Darren (Elliott, player-coach) demand in terms of being a good team guy on and off the ice.”

Anderson is also pleased to have Cox back in the fold.

He said: “Coxy is just someone we had to sign to improve our back end. It’s no secret that good British defencemen are hard to find, and we are delighted that Coxy has decided to return for this season.

“He is a great guy in the dressing room, and will make us better in all situations.”
