Ardington surged back to the top of Division 1 as Saxton Rovers suffered their first North Berks League defeat of the season at the hands of Faringdon Town, writes ANDY WELLS.

The 3-0 reverse put a huge dent in Saxton's title hopes as Gary Sutton stole the show with two goals for Faringdon.

Matthew Pill completed the scoring with a fine individual goal.

Ardington & Lockinge regained top spot with a 4-1 win which further consigned neighbours East Hendred to the drop.

Matthew Pedder struck twice to edge Ardington two points ahead of Saxton, having played a game more.

Steve Cuddon and Stuart Morrison got the other Ardington goals, with Tom McGrath netting Hendred's consolation from the penalty spot.

Third-placed Lambourn Sports crashed 5-3 at in-form Steventon to end their hopes of retaining the title.

Steventon's scorers were Paul Churchouse, with his 16th of the season, Craig Bell, Andrew Cooper, Nick Thompson and Ben Parry.

Grove Rangers have it all to do to avoid relegation after losing 3-0 at Coleshill United. Christian Ayres, Peter Soane and Liam Humphries scored to leave Grove in last place with only one point this year.

Wootton & Dry Sandford romped to a 5-0 win over Benson to clinch the Division 2 crown and make it back-to-back titles following their Division 3 success last year.

Nick Ridge rook his tally to 18 goals this season with a treble, while Mark Loveridge and an own goal accounted for Benson.

Closing fast on promotion are Harwell Village, who won 2-0 against Blewbury Res as Matty Aplin added two more goals to his season's tally.

Shrivenham A hammered Appleton (Abingdon) 8-0, with Neil Sutton and Paul Sanders both bagging hat-tricks.

Matt Hampson and Tom Rawle were also on the mark.
