JOHNNY Mullins praised Oxford United’s medical staff for their swift action after being concussed following a horror fall against Cambridge United.

The defender went up for a header, but contact with striker Tom Elliott saw him spin in the air and crash to the floor on his neck.

The reaction of players from both sides suggested it was a very serious injury and after five minutes of treatment Mullins was stretchered off wearing a neck brace.

Fortunately it was all precautionary and the defender was able to watch the second half, but he was quick to acknowledge the care he had received.

“I have to take my hat off to the medical staff,” Mullins said.

“I’m fine and they were brilliant getting on and taking all the precautions that were needed.

“All the credit goes to them and I’m thankful for that.

“I don’t remember too much about it, but I think I must have been knocked out for a bit.

“I wasn’t too scared until they put the neck brace on because I didn’t really know what was going on then.

“As soon as I got in, the doctors checked me out and I was a lot calmer as soon as the neck brace came off.”

Although concussed, Mullins was able to hear the ovation he received while being carried off, which came from both home and away fans.

He said: “It was a nice touch from both sets of supporters.

"Obviously I wish I was walking off the pitch, but I can only thank them for that.”
