ALEX Hales described it as “the best ten minutes of the season” after Ultimatum Du Roy and Take Two gave him a 40-1 across-the-card double at Market Rasen and Warwick respectively yesterday.

Hales, who trains at Edgcote, near Banbury, watched on TV from the Midlands track as Ultimatum Du Roy (11-4) battled home by three-quarters of a length under Noel Fehily in a handicap chase over three miles and a furlong in Lincolnshire.

And then Take Two (10-1) collared Giveagirlachance in the last 50 yards of a two-mile novices’ hurdle to score by half a length in the hands of James Banks.

Hales said after the latter’s win: “That’s the best ten minutes of the season.

“It was probably not the greatest of races, but he did it nicely and I think we can have some fun with him over hurdles.”

Fehily’s victory on Ultimatum Du Roy completed a double for the jockey after he had taken the opening novices’ hurdle at Market Rasen on Wilberdragon (7-4) for Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon.
