Oxford City’s six-game unbeaten record was brought to a grinding halt as they were crushed 4-0 at Leamington yesterday, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

James Fry netted twice for the hosts in the second half after goals from Jordan Goddard and Matt Dodd had put them 2-0 up at the break.

The visitors also finished with ten men for the second match running as Paul Stonehouse was dismissed for two first-half bookings.

City were sluggish from the start and immediately found themselves forced back.

It was little surprise when Leamington broke the deadlock midway through the first half.

Goddard’s deflected shot caught goalkeeper Salva de la Cruz off balance and trickled over the line.

City’s fortunes got no better as the half progressed, with Stonehouse being shown a second yellow for handball having already been booked for a late challenge.

And their task was made even harder on the brink of half-time as de la Cruz rushed out to claim a loose ball only to be beaten to it by Dodd.

The Leamington winger chip-ped the ball over the prone goalkeeper and into the net.

Things got no better after the break as Fry added a third, tapping in on the rebound after an earlier effort had been cleared off the line.

Fry notched his second soon afterwards, drilling a low effort into the bottom corner after some timid defending from City.

The home side could have inflicted even more damage as they repeatedly carved open City’s makeshift defence.

But with chances going begging for Fry, Dodd and Goddard in the later stages, City were spared further humiliation.
