DAVID Bruce produced a strong display to win the second round on a testing Harcourt Hill course.

And an impressive showing from Diane Moore saw the Headington Road Runner make it back-to-back wins in the ladies’ race.

Oxford City athlete Bruce, who did not compete in the first round last month, finished five seconds ahead of Swindon Harriers’ Ben Cole in a time of 32mins 47secs.

Nyle Clinton, winner of the opening race, came home third.

Moore ran out a 24-second winner in the ladies’ race, finishing in 25.12.

This saw her comfortably see off Oxford City’s Under 17 rising star Megan Humphreys (25.36), who in turn was 21 seconds clear of Eynsham’s Hannah Hale in third spot.

The men’s team event proved a procession for Oxford City, who took first place in Division 1 by a whopping 135 points.

With the first seven finishers counting, City filled six of the top 15 spots, with Ryan Meredith completing their finishers in 23rd.

Swindon Harriers topped the Division 2 standings, with Oxford Brookes University A team winning Division 3.

It was a similar story in the ladies’ event, with Oxford City again leading the way.

Their top-three finishers came home second, fourth and 12th to record a commanding success over Headington and Alchester.

Team Kennet took Division 2 and Kidlington A led the way in Division 3.

Oxford City’s Callum Bampton won the under 15/17 boys race, with Banbury’s Skip Snelson landing the under 13 event and Radley’s Ben Cumberland taking the under 11 category.

In the girls’ events, Newbury’s Yasmin Ryder saw off the challenge of Abingdon’s Fiona Bunn to win the under 15/17 race.

There was victory for Oxford City’s Alexandra Scrivener in the under 13 competition, while clubmate Libby Newhouse was beaten by just two seconds in the under 11 event as Newbury’s Maisie Jeger bombed in for victory.
