MICHAEL Appleton says Oxford United have to be creative while they continue to search for targets up front during the transfer window.

The U’s head coach is hoping to add two more forwards to the squad before September 1, but has found it difficult to bring in the right kind of player.

In the meantime, the priority is on getting the most out of the players already at the club.

And Appleton admits they could go a long way to answering the problem.

He said: “What we’ve got to do is be quite clever and creative to come up with a different solution at times.

“That might be right in front of our noses.

“It could be that Danny Hylton and Carlton Morris are the perfect partnership.

“They’ve had one full game together and we’ve created lots of opportunities.”

A move for Liam Walker remains a possibility, with Appleton believing the 26-year-old has made progress in settling his contract with Israeli club Bnei Yehuda.

But as a midfielder, he is not top of the U’s wish-list.

Appleton said: “I think we’re in a position to start talking if we need to, but we’ve got priorities we need to deal with in other areas first.

“Then we’ll address that one.”
