HARRY Smith hit a superb century as Great & Little Tew recorded an emphatic 75-run victory at Ashbrittle to book their spot in the national quarter-finals of the Davidstow Village Cup.

Smith hammered a destructive 109 to take Tew to 241-6 off their 40 overs after they won the toss and elected to bat at the Somerset venue, which was situated on top of a hill.

The Oxfordshire champions had been in trouble early on after being reduced to 17-2, before Smith was joined by Marcus Jeacock (30) in a 149-run third-wicket stand which set them on the way to a formidable total.

Smith’s dominant innings included 12 fours and three sixes.

Tew’s accurate attack, led by Lawrence Brock (3-19) and skipper Andy Harris (3-31), then ensured Ashbrittle were always behind the run rate.

Despite conceding a whopping 43 extras, Tew held their opponents to 166-9.

Now they will face an even longer trip to Roche in Cornwall on July 20 after their victory over Hampshire side Hambledon.
