YOUTH CRICKET: Ackland's super knock is key to Oxfordshire glory

A superb 92 from Harry Ackland helped Oxfordshire Under 17s kick off their ECB Cup campaign with an emphatic 184-run win away to Herefordshire at Brockhampton.

Oxon rattled up 321-4, before an outstanding bowling and fielding display saw the hosts shot out for 137.

Tom Condon and Ackland shared a 61-run partnership for the first wicket.

A 120-run stand between Ackland and Alex Davies then put Oxon in the driving seat.

Ackland fell for 92 from 115 balls, while Davies hit 48 from 70 deliveries.

Costley and Hendrick Robyns then blasted the Herefordshire attack in a 111-run partnership in only 73 balls.

Tom Costley smashed four sixes in his 40-ball 57, while Hendrick Robyns was unbeaten on 53 from 33 deliveries.

Skipper Sam Haselgrove took 4-27, while Max Mannering stifled Herefordshire’s with his ten overs yielded just 11 runs as Oxon cruised to victory.

Oxfordshire Under 15s stayed top of their ECB Cup group with an 19-run victory against Worcestershire at Stonesfield.

After choosing to bat first, captain Jordan Garrett led the way with a well-compiled half-century as the hosts posted 167 all out in their 50 overs.

Left-arm spinner Lloyd Belcher was the pick of Oxon’s bowlers with 3-19 from ten overs.

The result leaves Oxon three points clear at the top of the group on 16 points.

The county Under 12s slipped to a 31 defeat away to Shropshire in a friendly at Wrekin College.

The home side posted 146-8 as opener Peter Clark scored 83, Luke Higgins the pick of the Oxon bowlers with 2-28.

In reply, Oxon fell to 115 all out, captain Luke Maslen top-scoring with 23.

Oxfordshire Under 11’s match away to Devon was abandoned without a ball bowled.

An opening century partnership between Max Ferreira and Alfie Turner set up a record total of 239-3 as Oxfordshire Under 10s eased to a 160-run win against Shropshire in Condover.

After Oxfordshire’s mammoth total, Tom Stephenson Green struck early in Shropshire’s reply before Carrick Dunbar, with three wickets and Will Price left the hosts reeling at 27-6.

Huw Morris and Jack Home steadied the ship with a 49-run stand, before Shropshire closed on 79-7, 160 runs short as Oxfordshire recorded the biggest margin of victory in their history.
