HANNAH England led Great Britain to fifth place in the European Team Championships over the weekend.

The Oxford City athlete also came fifth in her 1,500m race in Braunschweig, Germany.

Ironically, her husband, Luke Gunn, occupied the same position in the 3,000m steeplechase.

England was pleased with her run, but felt that trying to go with race winner and current world champion Abeba Aregawi cost her a couple of couple of positions.

“Today was about trying to race with Aregawi as that’s something I am going to have to do for probably the rest of my career,” England said.

“Coming into the bell, I felt OK. I felt really good until that last 100 metres or so and she just had an extra gear and I had used my gears trying to stay in touch with her.

“I don’t regret going for that first or second place, but the last 50 was pretty disappointing.

“Hopefully that sort of race will bring me on for other races, although I would have liked to have got more points.”

Britain did not manage one victory yesterday, meaning their sole win from 40 events across the weekend came from the men’s 4x100m quartet on Saturday.
