SIX Bells C Kidlington maintained their 100 per cent Premier Section record in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash, writes ANDY BEAL.

A 2-1 victory at the Three Pigeons made it six wins out of six, but it is still not enough to take them to the summit.

Pigeons have lost two games, but have scored more dolls than their rivals.

The high-quality clash saw six sixes, with Steve Ward (5-6-5) top-scoring for Bells with 16.

Pigeons set the opening leg with 26, however Six Bells flew past that with a massive score of 35.

The second leg was tied 25-25, with the visitors winning on three sticks after setting 18 to secure victory.

Pigeons won the final leg 33-31 to avoid the whitewash.

Dick Walsh, Robin Busby and Phil Austin all hit a six for Bells, with Kevin Giles and Neil Lyon recording a maximum for Pigeons.

Barry Ruffels (6-5-4) was in top form for Garsington Sports A with 15 dolls as they took maximum points at home to Red Lion A Eynsham.

However, the leg scores were much closer then the result suggests.

The first two were tied 25-25, 25-25 with Sports winning both on three sticks, before taking the finale 28-23.

Yarnton British Legion top Section 1 after a 3-0 drubbing of Cricketers B.

Henry Johnson led the way with 14 dolls (6-4-4) as they secured all three legs 33-23, 29-20, 27-17.

Ray Peachey signed off in style after more than 40 years playing the sport.

Peachey’s final throw for the Griffin was a blob as his side lost 2-1 at Chequers A in Section 2.

Six Bells Quarry remain unbeaten at the top after beating their closest rivals Ampleforth Arms A 2-1.

Lee Anderton hit a six for Red Lion Kidlington in a 15-doll haul (5-6-4) in a 2-1 win at home to The Woodman.

Dave Bowler also hit a six, but his 13 dolls (6-4-3) could not prevent Vikings Sports B losing 3-0 at Team Monarch.

In Section 3, Don Armstrong hit a baker’s dozen (3-6-4) for Crown Chalgrove as they came away from Chequers B with all three points in the leg scores of 17-11, 18-12, 15-13.

Vikings Sports C head Section 4 after a 3-0 victory in a close-fought battle at home to Green Road Club.

They snatched the opening leg 18-17, but comfortably won the next 18-13.

The final leg was tied 12-12 with Vikings claiming maximum points on three sticks.

In Section 5, Brill Sports Club A scored more dolls then their hosts Cricketers A, but still lost out 2-1.

Gladiators B crashed to their first defeat of the season in Section 8, going down 2-1 at home to Chequers C, who take over at the top.
