Alice Powell is in the hunt for more success after completing an amazing weekend.
On Sunday, the Oxfordshire driver recorded a double win at Rockingham, near Corby, just 24 hours after she got through the next stage of selection for the GB Skeleton bobsleigh team.
Powell, 21, from Sarsden, near Chipping Norton, twice got the better of championship leader Toby Sowery to end his winning run in the F3 Cup.
She had been due to compete at Silverstone, but a change of plan saw her switch tracks and race for Gale Force Racing.
“It all changed at the last minute and I ended up going to Rockingham,” said Powell.
“It was really good and I didn’t expect to do so well. It was great to get the team a maiden win. There was a lots of very close racing, which made it exciting.”
It followed her previous fine effort at Rockingham where she finished third in the Cooper Tires British F3 International series.
But Powell admitted that the news from the bobsleigh team had come as a complete shock.
She added: “I didn’t expect to get through. They said they would send us an email last week, but I hadn’t heard anything.
“But on Saturday, my phone started bleeping.
“I was thinking ‘who is sending me an email at this time’? So I was delighted when it said I had made it through to the next stage.
“I think it’s down from 600 to between 100 and 120 people. They haven’t told us what’s next.
“I’m now hoping for another email. I think they let you know at the end of July.
“I’ll just have to keep up the training and see what happens.”
Powell is next in action on the track in June when she takes part in the Formula Renault Asia Series in China.
