Karl Bushell followed up his men’s singles title triumph by retaining his crown in the seventh annual Oxford & District Association’s Hard Bat competition at Bicester.

The Kidlington Forum veteran took the “TT The Hard Way” Trophy home again with an 11-9, 11-9 win over Andy Lebutt, from the East Midlands, in the final.

With the competition seeing the use of new blue sandpaper ping pong world championship bats, Bushell squeezed past Tim Cheek 11-9, 12-10 in the last four, while Lebutt beat Maan Younis 11-7, 4-11, 11-8.

Shunko Cook took the honours in the Plate competition with an 11-4, 9-11, 11-2 win over Richard Burton in the final.

She defeated Huw Morgan 11-4, 11-7 in the semi-finals.
