Alan Green and Darren Elliott hit hat-tricks as Oxford City Stars bounced back from last week’s double defeat with a 10-1 win over Peterborough Islanders in the English National League.

Showing no signs of their first reverse for 20 games, the hosts hit back with a commanding display in their South Division 2 clash.

They made a quick start and went ahead when Mason Wild and Elliott combined to set up Green to make it 1-0 in the fourth minute.

The same player doubled the advantage in the 12th minute and less than two minutes later completed a quickfire treble.

When Elliott made it 4-0 and Jacob Smith hit No 5 before the end of the first period – Zach Dolphin collecting his first assist in senior hockey – the game was already safe.

The second period saw Stars pick up where they left off, and after 98 seconds had added another two goals, from Elliott and Smith.

Elliott then completed his hat-trick and put Stars 8-0 ahead.

Stars relaxed and the Islanders pulled a goal back with a great individual effort from James White.

But the hosts moved up a gear in the final period, with Warren Jones hitting his first goal of the season to make it 9-1.

Joe Oliver completed the scoring with a fine strike as Stars rounded off a convincing victory.
