TWO tries from Allan Purchase and Jackson Achilles helped leaders Oxford Harlequins make it eight wins from eight in South West 1 East with a 39-10 victory at Buckingham.

Lock Purchase and No 8 Achilles ensured Quins pulled away after leding just 12-10 at half-time.

Purchase drove over for the opening try on 16 minutes, converted by fly half Zac Norris.

Wing Alan Johnstone bagged try No 2 following a 30-metre run, but Buckingham fly half Andy White replied with a penalty.

Quins forward Richard Battson was yellow-carded before home No 8 Phil Wright drove over for a try, White converting.

Achilles went over for his first on 42 minutes, with Norris converting, while centre Mike Lee’s try earned Quins a bonus point.

On 50 minutes, full back Dean Seals tiptoed over in the corner for Quins.

Purchase reached across for his second try on 63 minutes, with Achilles completing the scoring just afterwards.

Fly half Phil Thomas’s penalty earned Witney an encouraging 19-19 home draw with Swindon.

But the hosts will feel they should have hung for victory on after leading 16-3 at half-time.

A try from full back Henry Lamb, converted by Thomas, who added three penalties, gave Witney a great platform.

Swindon had managed only a first-half penalty, but roared into a 19-16 lead, aided by a yellow card for Witney prop Jamie Burke.

Thomas was off target with a long-range penalty, but earned a draw late on.

A depleted Grove lost 20-16 at home to Maidenhead.

Grove, who were missing Nick Sevier, Roger Sevier, Joe Bellinger and Lee Wright, fell behind to a try from Mykel Parrott, converted by Mike Virgo.

Home wing Harry Carr slotted two penalties, with Virgo landing one in between.

Joe Rivers went over for Maidenhead, but two tries from centre Guy Nicholl put Grove 16-15 ahead.

However, James Emmanuel’s try won it for the visitors.
