Bicester ABC welterweight Anthony Miller was in impressive form as he saw off Shawn Roberts in a hard-fought battle at Aylesbury.

Miller was making his second appearance under the club’s banner after losing a tight decision on his debut at the Oxford Fight Night in May.

He had a slight height advantage over the muscular Aylesbury fighter, who came into the contest five pounds heavier. Miller worked neatly behind his jab, keeping the home fighter at bay in the first round.

After finding his range, he started to let his powerful right cross go and caught Roberts with a good punch that hurt his opponent.

Miller started to show more aggression by the second round and landed some good hooks to the body.

The Bicester fighter was pushing his opponent backwards and landing clusters of punches to both body and head.

Roberts, who was now bleeding from the nose, was visibly shaken up by a right uppercut that Miller had thrown with real precision.

Miller spent the first half of the third and finalround keeping himself out of trouble with his superior jab.

As Roberts came forward, Miller was able to pick him off with neat combinations.

The Bicester manfinished the stronger to take a 30-27 unanimous points decision.

“I knew this was a going to be a tough contest,” said Miller. “But I prepared well and did everything I was asked to by my coaching team. “I was keen to pick up a victory here after missing out on my debut.

“I will be straight back to the gym now to build on my performance.”
