OXFORDSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE

OAKLEY United maintained their 100 per cent start to the Premier Division campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of last season’s champions, Riverside.

James Keeble opened the scoring on 25 minutes and Ben Gray doubled the lead.

Oakley added four second-half goals, with Gray’s second, Paul Brown bagging a brace and Keiron Schmidt completing the rout.

Daniel Johnson netted an unusual hat-trick for Garsington, converting three penalties as they drew 3-3 with Launton Sports.

Johnson opened the scoring from the spot, but Launton hit back with a penalty of their own which was converted by Andy Gledhill.

Mark Scanes put Launton ahead and they extended their lead soon after through Nick Allsworth. But two late Johnson penalties gave Garsington a share of the points.

Freeland lost their second successive match after a 2-1 defeat to Mansfield Road.

Ben Glastonbury’s penalty put them ahead, but Luis McGillycuddy levelled and Adam Halewood won it for Mansfield Road five minutes from time.

Oxford University Press won 3-1 at Chalgrove.

Marlon James opened the scoring and Sean Hurcombe doubled the lead midway through the first half.

Within a minute of the restart it was 3-0 as Hurcombe added a third, but they were unable to hang on for a clean sheet as Craig Coles netted for the hosts.

Marston Saints are still looking for their first win after losing 2-1 to Horspath, despite the penalty-saving heroics of goalkeeper Craig Greenough, who kept out Sam Graham’s early spot-kick to keep the match goalless.

Noel Fox and Elliot O’Brien did find a way past Greenough to put Horspath 2-0 up at half-time.

Despite pulling a goal back through Luke Hamill, Marston were unable to find an equaliser and they slipped to their third consecutive defeat.

In Division 3, Oakley United Res needed a late winner from Liam Abbott to beat Enstone Res 2-1.

Leon Crozier headed Oakley into the lead, but Enstone struck back before half-time when Chris Mullard converted a penalty.

Abbott missed the chance to restore Oakley’s lead from the penalty spot, but he made amends late in the game when he got on the end of an Adam Pike cross to give the hosts the victory.
