MATCH OF THE DAY
Division 2: Cumnor v Wolverton Town
CUMNOR avoided defeat at home to their only rivals Wolverton Town on Saturday and were crowned Division 2 champions.
Both teams had already confirmed promotion, but Town could have taken the title race into the final round of fixtures had they won.
Cumnor made life difficult for themselves by putting in a sloppy performance in the field, with four catches being spurned.
Bibi Raja (69) and Zak Wade (57) cashed in, taking the visitors to 255 before they were bowled out with two balls going to waste.
Cumnor lost Ali Morteza for a duck and Adam Cook for only four, which removed any real chance of chasing down victory, but a quickfire 67 from skipper John Williams and 45 by Matt Lake ensured they avoided defeat.
Unlucky to be relegated last season, Cumnor have bounced back to the top flight at the first attempt, and deservedly so as they have led the table all season.
They will joined by Wolverton, who last played at that level in 2002 and had won seven of their previous eight before the weekend.
Cumnor 9pts, Wolverton Town 19
