A much-changed Banbury side slipped to a five-wicket defeat at Burnham, who secured their Division 1 status as a result.

Banbury opted to strengthen their second team in order to boost their chances of staying in Cherwell League Division 1.

This meant youngsters Adam Wirth, Justin Lambden and Jamie Coles, plus the experienced Steve Beck and Ollie Murrey were all drafted in.

Banbury batted after winning the toss, but struggled to score at a competitive rate.

Jonny Cater top-scored with 55 from 95 balls, while opener Wirth hit 34 off 99.

Only Brady Barends and Jimmy Phillips also reached double figures as Banbury closed on 162-9.

Aftab Khan, Azhar Ali and Harveer Gandam took two wickets apieces, with Khan conceding just 15 runs in ten overs.

Raja Rehman hit 57 off 43 balls and Gandam added 40 as Burnham cruised to 165-5 in 33 overs.

Off-spinner Richard West was Banbury’s leading bowler with 2-34 from his eight overs.
