HORSPATH 2nd’s promotion hopes were dented by former England opening bowler Darren Gough, who has been turning out for Dinton 2nd.

Gough hit 58 in Dinton’s 271-5 declared from 42.4 overs. The match then came to a thrilling climax, with Dinton one wicket and Horspath three runs short of a victory.

Jack Biggs (55), Graham Beer (44) and Stephen Green (42) all batted well for the visitors, while Gough took 3-60.

Bicester & North Oxford are safe after collecting ten points from their trip to Oxford Downs 2nd.

Richard Simpson took 6-55 and son Michael Simpson (4-51) dismissed Downs for 195, of which James Barrett made 56 and Mark Wingfield-Digby 31. Matt Collins (55) and Simpson senior (50) kept Bicester's hopes alive, but they ended on 184-9.

Les Hole took 4-12 and Chris Panter picked up 3-16 as Bledlow Ridge were all out for only 78 by Shipton-under-Wychwood 2nd.

Tim Senior hit an unbeaten 43 in Shipton’s 79-0.

Greg Jenkins (4-34) and Andy Lane (4-35) restricted Sandford St Martin to 121-8 in a 40 over innings.

Tom Goffe then took 3-30 but only delayed the inevitable as Daniel Catt (57no) and Pip Webb (31no) steered Cublington to 124-4 in the 24th over.
