Three second-half goals were enough to sink Oxford City as Skrill North leaders Hednesford Town eased to a 3-0 home win at Keys Park on Saturday.

The result means City, who gave a debut to Frenchman Adam Maabdi, have yet to win a game this season after three attempts.

Wayne Riley put the hosts in front after poor defending from City, while Elliott Durrell hit his fifth and sixth goals of the season to compound City’s misery late on.

Hednesford looked every bit the side which had scored seven times in their opening two games as they dominated possession in the early stages.

But despite the home side’s probing, City’s defence restricted their opponents to just a handful of half-chances.

Twice they were nearly undone by quickly taken free-kicks, but Neil Harvey was unable to convert either opportunity.

However, after a solid defensive effort in the first half City collapsed after the break.

The hosts should have taken the lead just minutes after the restart when Riley rounded keeper Mark Scott, only to shoot into the side netting with the goal at his mercy.

But he made amends just moments later when the City defence again failed to deal with a ball over the top, this time firing past the helpless Scott to give Hednesford the lead they had been threatening.

This forced City to attack, but the only chance they could muster was a snapshot from sub Mike Symons which was easily gathered by keeper Dan Crane.

Instead it was Hednesford who extended their lead when Elliott Durrell’s cross beat everyone before settling in the far corner.

And Durrell added his second of the afternoon just minutes later as the visitors capitulated, completing City’s misery with a sweetly-struck volley.
