Banbury United let slip a 2-1 lead in the dying minutes as their went down to an agonising Calor League Premier Division defeat on Saturday.

Trailing 1-0, Adeyinka Talabi’s penalty and a Juliano Menezes strike saw the Puritans go ahead with ten minutes left.

But sub Chris Henry and David Keenleyside won it for the hosts.

Banbury had started brightly with home keeper Paul Bastock making a good save from the debutant Anderson Pinto, before tipping over a Kynan Isaac free-kick.

On 30 minutes, Banbury Kyal McNulty was fouled in the box, but Bastock saved Scott Bridges’s penalty before Leon Simpson’s follow-up was cleared.

After the break, St Albans cranked up the pressure and were rewarded when Henry gave them the lead with a tap-in.

Banbury did not let their heads drop and levelled when Talabi fired in a penalty low to Bostock’s right after Wayne Blossom was fouled.

The Puritans took the lead when Bastock parried Isaac’s shot, only for Menezes to fire home.

However, three minutes from time, Keenleyside equalised and a minute into stoppage time, Henry fired home the winner.

Menezes should have made it 3-3, but blasted over.
