ALEX Davies’s maiden county ton and Jason Cardy’s best bowling figures led Oxfordshire Under 17s to an 84-run win over Huntingdonshire and a place in the ECB Cup semi-finals.

Skipper Andrew Tolson had no hesitation in opting to bat first at Bicester & North Oxford, and Oxon rattled up an impressive 278-6 from their 50 overs.

After losing Markus Jeacock relatively early for 18, Davies came to the crease at No 3, and he carried his bat for the rest of the innings, completing his century with a boundary off the last ball of the innings.

His unbeaten knock contained ten fours, and came off 114 balls.

Down the order, Tom Costley continued his excellent form, smashing 67 from only 47 balls to help Oxon to their large total.

Huntingdonshire’s reply started badly, as opening bowlers Cardy and Lawrence Brock performed with great accuracy and venom to reduce the visitors to 21-5.

Cardy’s first spell yielded four wickets, including a spectacular caught and bowled.

Will Horrell and Kyle Medcalf batted well to get Hunts back on track as the pair shared 119 for the sixth wicket.

Horrell eventually fell for 57, while Medcalf scored 54, both falling to Davies, who completed a memorable day with 4-39.

It was left to Cardy to take the final wicket for figures of 5-25 as Oxon wrapped up victory by dismissing Hunts for 194. Oxon now host Gloucester in search of a final place.

Meanwhile, Costley and skipper Tolson scored centuries as Oxfordshire posted an 85-run victory on first innings away to Berkshire at Reading in the ECB Under 17 County Championship.

The home side opted to put Oxon in on a damp track on day one, and quickly sent opener Tom Condon back to the pavilion.

But Oxon are made of sterner stuff these day, and they put the home bowlers to the sword as they rattled up a massive 412 all out.

Tolson scored a sublime and chanceless 103 batting at four, while Costley’s maiden county century (144) put Oxfordshire in charge.

Berkshire were left with 88 overs to chase down the unlikely target and, to their credit, they set about it in positive fashion.

Led by Brad Gilmour’s 111, Berkshire were always in the hunt, while Mohammad Avas scored a run a ball 57 at No 6.

However, wickets fell at regular intervals, allowing Oxon to stay in control. Saim Hussain finished with 3-76, while Davies claimed 2-59 from 19 tidy overs.
